Liberty Specialty Markets

“Liberty were looking for a machine that would provide a practical solution to dispensing but which also had a “WOW” factor.” Stephen Wilkinson, Tricon Foodservice Consultants

Multiple TopBrewers installed in Liberty Specialty Markets’ new Walkie Talkie office to encourage collaboration

Liberty Specialty Markets have moved into the iconic Walkie Talkie building, 20 Fenchurch Street, and have selected Scanomat’s TopBrewer app-controlled premium coffee solution as the standard coffee and water solution for all staff refreshment areas and the stunning Broker Lounge.

The project, which took 18 months from planning to completion, merges several London offices into one prime City of London headquarters.

The 680,000 sq. ft Walkie Talkie building, dubbed as ‘the shape of the future’, was designed by the world renowned Architect, Rafael Vinoly. It was developed in a joint partnership between Canary Wharf Group and Land Securities and offers 34 storeys of world class office space in the heart of the Insurance district of the City. Liberty Specialty Markets occupy six floors of the building.

The office interior was designed by Pringle Brandon Perkins + Will, who are well established as one of the most successful design firms in the world.

The office space is fitted to a high standard with a blend of luxury materials.  The office partitions and staircases are made of glass to give a spacious feel and allow light to flood through the building from the panoramic windows.  The stunning views across the City of London are unrivalled – with exceptional views of The Shard, The Thames and Canary Wharf.

The workspace provides a mix of contemporary open plan office space and a separate Broker Lounge.  Along the corridors, between the staircases, informal social areas have been designed with integrated TopBrewer beverage stations to encourage good communication and collaboration amongst employees.

Simon Bracken, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Scanomat UK said, “By providing an anchor point for the social areas, TopBrewer can help to create collision zones in the workspace with positive effects on staff collaboration.”

The kitchen areas that facilitate the open plan offices have been kept minimalistic and simple with high gloss white units.  The TopBrewer perfectly complements the sleek style with its discreet under-counter design and aesthetically stunning swan neck tap.

The Broker Lounge is a truly exceptional, premium space with a blend of informal meeting areas and private high backed orange chairs which are perfectly positioned to look out across the River Thames and beyond.  Within this space is a glass housed refreshment area which boasts two TopBrewer’s, allowing visitors to customise their drinks using the TopBrewer app installed on the integrated iPads.

Tricon Foodservice Consultants introduced the TopBrewer concept to Liberty Specialty Markets. Stephen Wilkinson, Head of Management Services at Tricon commented, “Liberty were looking for a machine that would provide a practical solution to dispensing both hot drinks and water but which also had a “WOW” factor. The TopBrewer appeared to fit this profile perfectly but Liberty wanted to ensure that the product could deliver quality and value as well as style and practicality. Tricon worked with Liberty through an extensive process of consumer testing and financial modelling before the decision was taken to install the TopBrewer in all the refreshment points as well as the Broker Lounge.”

There are two TopBrewer models suitable for the workplace; the Pro Series which is recommended for higher volume sites and the Compact Series which is best suited to smaller offices.  Simon Bracken explains, “We installed sixteen TopBrewer’s in total at Liberty Specialty Markets and recommended a mix of TopBrewer Pro and Compact models depending on the volume in each area.  The TopBrewer Pro is suited to higher volume spaces as it has two grinders and can produce over 500 cups per day,” He added, “To complement the minimal design and to provide a cost saving for the client, we also recommended a chilled water module be fitted to all units to eliminate the need for a separate filtered water tap, thus creating a complete refreshment solution from one tap.”
